William Thomas McMackin, son of Rufus McMackin, was born January 1847 in Tennessee. He was the only child of Rufus and Polly (Mary?) McMackin. Her maiden name is not known. This family was living in Jefferson Township, Andrew County, Missouri, at the time of the 1850 U. S. Census. Rufus McMackin, age 26, farmer, born Tennessee; Polly I. (or J.) McMackin age 24, born Tenn.; and Wm. T. McMackin, age 3, born Tenn. Rufus McMackin filed for divorce in Andrew County in October 1860. The divorce was granted October 14, 1861, and custody of William T. was given to his father. On February 10, 1862, Rufus McMackin married Jemima Lamaster and they had twelve children. William T. McMackin died January 10, 1910, after having taken poison while aboard a St. Louis and San Francisco passenger train between Kansas City and Olathe, Kansas. He had been living in Frederick, Oklahoma, where he owned a farm and a hotel building. He was a Civil War veteran, having served in 51st Missouri Infantry, Co. B.
Loucinda Jane Hainey, daughter of James F. Hainey, Jr., and Rachel Spears, was born May 1846 in Kentucky. She died at Western State Hospital on June 14, 1924, and is buried in the hospital cemetery at Fort Supply, Woodward County, Oklahoma.
William T. McMackin and Loucinda Jane Hainey were married January 30,1870, in Nodaway County, Missouri. According to his obituary, William and Loucinda Jane McMackin bought and settled on a claim in Section 10, Township 29, Range 16, located one mile north of Altoona, Wilson County, Kansas, in 1870. The obituary goes on to state that, "he constructed a magnificent house." They had three children: Elizabeth Catherine McMcMackin who married ____ Myers, and died shortly afterward; Mary Matilda McMackin, who died in infancy; and, Nettie Pearl McMackin, who married Manson McManus Hoover.
William and "Jane" McMackin filed for divorce in Wilson County, Kansas, in September 1897. No decree was recorded. No will was found for W. T. McMackin; however, probate records show that his daughter, Nettie McMackin Hoover, inherited all his property.
