Lawrence ROSIER and

Harrison County Virginia (now WV)
Logan and Shelby Counties in Ohio
Clayton and Fayette Counties in Iowa

Lawrence ROSIER was born about 1785; most census records indicate he was born in Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the War of 1812, having enlisted in the Virginia Militia at Bridgeport in August 1814. On the military records, his name is spelled as ROSER, and his place of birth is shown as Pennsylvania. He served as a private in Captain Joseph Johnson's Rifle Company from August 31, 1814, to November 25, 1814. He was discharged at Norfolk, Virginia, in March 1815.

Lawrence ROSIER married Esther KAYSER on February 10, 1814, in Harrison County, Virginia. She was born June 1, 1794, in Virginia. Her parents were Jacob KAYSER and Pamelia (Permelia) JOHNSTON.

Lawrence and Esther ROSIER lived in Harrison County Virginia at the time of their marriage and it appears they went from there to Logan County Ohio. However, records regarding their fourth child, Jacob K. ROSIER, indicate that he was born June 18, 1822, in Richmond, Virginia, so there may have been a stopover there.

Lawrence and Esther Rosier's household was enumerated in Miami Township, Logan County Ohio on the 1830 Federal Census and in Perry Township, Shelby County Ohio on the 1840 federal census. By 1850, they were in Clayton County Iowa; in 1860 they were in Fayette County Iowa; and in 1870 were in Bates County Missouri. Three of their sons had been in that area for some time and probably explains why Lawrence and Esther were there. They apparently returned to Fayette County Iowa between 1870 and 1874.

A comparison of the 1830 and 1840 census records indicates that Lawrence and Esther ROSIER had a total of five sons and three daughters. Census records, land records, newspaper articles, and court records have been combined to compile the following list of their children.
