Bicentennial Biographies, p. 133, indicates that Nancy's gg grandfather was Gen. William Howe of the British army in the American Revolution by the marriage of Gen. Howe's daughter to Gen. William Woodford. However, this seems to be in dispute. http://www.pathway.net/lcampbell/wood.html gives a strong argument that a union between Gen. Howe's daughter and Gen. Woodford could not have taken place. (Note, recently I've been unable to access this web page.)

Nancy reportedly witnessed the one and only hanging in Gilmer County at the age of 18. (Bicentennial Biographies, p. 133)
