Henry Clay Haven(s), son of Howard Havens and Sarah (Sally) Carter, was born 1843 in Jackson County, Ohio, and died 1915 at Graniteville, Missouri. In 1861 he enlisted in the 36th Regiment, Ohio Infantry, and was honorably discharged, disabled in 1865 because of a gunshot wound in the leg during combat. He fought in major Civil War battles at Lewisburg, South Mountain, Antietam, Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge.
He married Eliza Jane Jaycox (1847-1929) in 1863, daughter of David Jaycox and Rebecca Carter. Rebecca and Sarah Carter were sisters, daughters of William Carter and Anna French. Henry and Eliza had 13 children born in Monterey, Reynolds County, except Viola, born in Jackson Co., Ohio, and Leona, born in Pilot Knob, Iron Co., Mo.

In 1867, Henry Haven and his wife, Eliza Jane, came by steamboat from Jackson County, Ohio, to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in company with the latter's parents and family. They brought with them wat personal effects they had and five head of horses. Landing at Cape Girardeau, they drove their teams across country, westward, until they reached Pilot Knob, Missouri. From there they moved on to Bellevue where they lived about two years, and then moved, and then moved to Black River in Iron County, Missouri, where they farmed a piece of land rented from Eliza Jane's father, David Jaycox. After living on the Jaycox farm a short while, Henry Clay Haven and Eliza Jane purchased land at Graniteville, Missouri, some twenty miles away, and there settled to raise a large family of thirteen children.
Eliza Jane Jaycox Haven was born December 7, 1847, and died February 28, 1939. She is buried Middlebrook Cemetery, Iron County, Missouri. Henry Clay Haven is buried Chapman Cemetery, Reynolds County, Missouri.
