Decoration Day in Haskell County is the fourth Sunday in May. Many of my family rest at Sans Bois. People come from nearby and distant places to place flowers on the graves of their loved ones and visit with friends and relatives. I remember that when I was a child lots of families took a picnic lunch and blankets to spread on the grass. There were rows of benches under a wooden arbor and someone to lead in the singing of hymns and "preaching." The arbor is still there, and my family still gathers there every fourth Sunday in May. Those who can, spend the weekend. Some camp on the bank of the Mountain Fork and the more timid stay in motels in Stigler. It is still a special time for all, visiting at the cemetery, and having lunch at the "Lequire Hotel" with our cousins.
