"John GETCHELL, Jr. (John 8, Samuel 2, Samuel 1)
was born at Scarboro, Me., 25
Apr 1719. On 7 Nov. 1742 he married Mary BARBOUR of Brunswick.
He served in the colonial militia in 1751, being sergeant in his
father's company, and later in the Revolution. On 23 June 1768
he bought of the Kennebec Proprietors land on the east side of
the Kennebec River in what is now Vassalboro, being the largest
land-owner there, and residing at what is still known as
Getchell's Corner.
