EMMA LIEUELLA EATON
Born: 24 May 1866 - Died: 22 July 1926
Married: WILLIAMS, Samuel H.
17 January 1889
Emma Lieuella Eaton was the only daughter of John M. and Nancy (BENN) Eaton and the last of their children to be born in Iowa. She was two years old when her parents purchased land and moved to Benton County Missouri. Our first record of Emma Lieuella is the 1870 Federal census, taken the 19th of August 1870, Post Office - Cole Camp, Williams Township, Benton County, Missouri. The next to youngest child shown on that census is Lieuella, age 4, female, white, born Iowa. According to her obituary, Emma Lieuella married S. H. Williams on 17 January 1889. They had six children, one of whom, Myrtle Irene, preceded her mother in death.
The 1900 Benton County Missouri Federal Census, Williams Township, Supv Dist 7, ED 11; Stamped page #144; Dwelling 9, Family 9, lists this household as follows.

This census also showed six children born, five living. The obituary of Emma Lieuella stated one child, Myrtle Irene, died 21 October 1893. Whether 1893 was also the year of her birth, we do not know.
The family Bible and the pictures of John and Nancy Eaton's children and grandchildren were given to Cecil (Eaton) Hoover by her first cousin, Dove (Williams) Borchers. Ross and Cecil Hoover, along with her sister, Faith (Eaton) Melhorn, visited Dove (Wiliams) Borchers and her sister, Nona (Williams) Larsen, in Benton County. Dove's husband was Leonard Henry Borchers and Nona'a husband was Dewey Larson.
The following is from the back of a photocopy of a picture. The people in the picture are not identifiable and can barely be seen at all. However, from the information on the back, it appears it was written by someone in the Williams family. "I think this was taken at Grandmother's home after Grandfather died. Uncle George and his family were living with her. The woman with fan over her face was Agnes Holloway (Eaton). Mama called her father Uncle Dan Eaton. That is all I know about him. Next is Louise Eaton, Uncle George's wife. Next our grandmother. One pointing to the ground was my Mama. My Dad is looking up in the tree at the kids up there. The four girls in back row with big hats, 2 were Uncle George's girls and one was Goldie. Front row is Me, Rosie Eaton and Nona." (Written perhaps by Dove Williams Borcher?)
We have a group picture of some of the Williams family. On the back, someone has written, "taken at Williams reunion at Sedalia about 1940," and the names of the people in the picture: left to right: "Nona Larsen; Earl Williams; Goldie Brandt, S. H. Williams (Dad); Dove Borchers; Abe Williams. Another photograph of the same group, obviously taken at the same time, also bears dates of death by some of the names, Earl Williams died 1951; S. H. Williams died 1944 age 84; Abe Williams died 1962. At Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Benton County, Missouri, there is one stone for this husband and wife. It is inscribed, "S. Harvey 1861 - 1944 (and) Lieuella E. 1866 - 1926."
We have located stones at Lincoln Cemetery, Benton County, Missouri, for Dorothy (Dove) and husband, Leonard H. Borchers. It is inscribed: "Dorothy D. 1894-1987 and Leonard H. 1894-1981. Next to it is the stone for their son. It is inscribed, "Borchers - Lynn Shirley (Butch) 1927-1983."
Also at Lincoln Cemetery there is a single stone with LARSON at the top. The inscription below reads, "Nona May 15, 1899 - April 2, 1986 and Dewey March 3, 1902 - Jan 20, 1989. Between the names is engraved an open Bible with the words, "Married Jan 3, 1930. Next to this stone is a small, flat stone inscribed, "Baby Son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Larson, Feb 17, 1933 - Feb 17, 1933."
We have no information about the families of Goldie (Brandt), Earl Williams, or Alfred Williams (who may be the person identified as "Abe" in the family group picture below. Lieuella Eaton's obituary stated she had eight grandchildren at the time of her death in 1926. These must have been children of Goldie, Earl, or Alfred.

"Emma Lieuella, only daughter of John M. and Nancy Eaton, was born at Bellfasts, Iowa, on May 24 1866, coming to Missouri at the age of 2 years. She was united in marriage to S. H. Williams on January 17, 1889. To this union six children were born, one of whom, Myrtle Irene, preceded her into the Great Beyond on October 21, 1893. She was converted and united with the Mt. Olivet Methodist Protestant Church 32 or 33 years ago, retaining her membership there until her death.
She departed this life on Thursday, July 22, 1926, being aged 60 years, 1 month and 28 days. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, five brothers and the following children: Mrs. Goldie Brandt of Clifton, Ill., Mrs. Dovie Borchers, Earl Harvey, Alfred and Nona Olive Williams of Lincoln. She also had eight grandchildren besides a host of friends, for to really know her was to respect and love her.
Many of her old neighbors in the several neighborhoods in which she had lived can testify to her many good traits as a friend and neighbor and her readiness to help in any way those in need of help. She was a home-loving woman and was devoted to her family. She was unusualy patient and uncomplaining during her long illness and seemed to appreciate greatly the many kindly acts and remembrances of her friends.
A short service was held at the home at noon Saturday, after which the body was taken to Mt. Olivet where funeral services were conducted by Bro. Henly of Warsaw. The body was laid to rest in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
A loving one from us is gone, A gentle voice is stilled, A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled
A FRIEND"
